Practical travel notes

When does a private driver make sense?

The right transport is the one that works for your day. Private travel can make a multi-stop route easier, while a rail journey or a local transfer may be exactly right for another part of the holiday.

At a glance

A private driver is useful for door-to-door travel, luggage and several stops. It may be unnecessary for a stay in one place or a journey you specifically want to make by train.

Look at the whole travel day

Compare the time spent reaching stations, handling bags, waiting and getting to the next hotel. The cheapest ticket and the most convenient overall journey are not always the same option.

Be clear about the flexibility you want

Private transport can make agreed stops easier, but daily hours, extra distance and changes still need a scope. Discuss the kind of flexibility you value before confirming.

Consider a mixed route

A private transfer, a confirmed train segment and local sightseeing can all belong in one holiday. Match each travel choice to the experience rather than committing to one mode everywhere.

A few practical answers

Is a private driver the same as a tour guide?

No. Driving and guiding are different roles. Ask the quotation to state any guiding service and language support you need.

Do I need a driver for my whole Sri Lanka holiday?

Not necessarily. You may prefer private transport for certain transfers and another option for local days or a rail journey. Review the route before deciding.
